MAZDA2 ACHIEVES 84MPG IN FUEL ECONOMY CHALLENGE

After completing more than 410 miles on the gruelling ALD Automotive/TOTAL Excellium Fleet World MPG Marathon 2008, a Mazda2 diesel entered by Mazda Motors UK has secured a splendid second-place finish, recording an exceptional 84.58mpg.
The objective of the MPG Marathon was to promote eco-driving and highlight the fuel savings that are possible with a little thought and the use of ‘smarter motoring’ techniques. A demanding route over a wide variety of roads in mid-Wales and the north-west Midlands attracted a field of 39 cars and crews from 22 manufacturers – representing a broad cross-section of vehicles. The event challenged crews “to improve upon the car’s official ‘combined cycle’ fuel economy figure” by the biggest margin.
FANTASTIC DEALS ON MAZDA MOTOBILITY VEHICLES

Many models, including the Mazda2 supermini, Mazda3 (with optional automatic transmission), and the Mazda MX-5, are available through the Motability scheme until the end of December 2008 with no advanced payments.
Motability is a national UK charity that helps disabled people to achieve greater mobility on the road. Set up by the government in 1977, its aim is to provide vehicles and powered wheelchairs for disabled people.

UPGRADED MAZDA BT-50 NOW AT H.G.BRYER AND SONS

The upgraded Mazda BT-50 pick-up has now arrived at H.G.Bryer and Sons in Carmarthen and Haverfordwest. The latest Mazda BT-50 has a new exterior and interior look, plus more equipment to boost the pick-up’s appeal. Also new to the Mazda BT-50 line-up is the range-topping ‘Intrepid’ model with a 3-litre, 156ps turbo diesel engine, five-speed automatic transmission and leather interior.

MAZDA MX-5 NAMED ‘BEST USED CONVERTIBLE’

The honour comes just weeks after the judges from the UK’s best-selling weekly automotive magazine selected the Roadster Coupe version for critical acclaim, naming the iconic sports car as ‘Best Convertible’ in the 2008 Auto Express New Car Honours.

Leverkusen, 9th September 2008. Mazda Motor Corporation recently announced a commitment to reduce the fuel economy of Mazda vehicles sold globally by an average of 30 per cent by 2015 as part of its overall Sustainable Zoom-Zoom strategy. As part of this strategic direction Mazda now presents three all-new technological developments near completion in Japan.
Up to 9 Percent improvement in Fuel Consumption with the Mazda Smart Idle Stop System (SISS)
The Mazda SISS automatically stops the engine of the car, then automatically starts it again using direct-injection helped by a starter motor action. In order to achieve this, both the compression-stroke and expansion-stroke pistons are stopped at exactly the correct position to ensure the right balance of air volume in each cylinder.
Mazda’s system is unique, and a global first, as it begins indexing the pistons before the engine starts up again, unlike standard systems that do this after an electric motor starts turning over the engine. Thanks to this innovation, Mazda’s SISS starts about twice as fast as competitor systems and delivers a smoother restart and fuel savings. The SISS system will be introduced to the EU market in the first half of next year.
Cleaner MZR-CD 2.2-litre Turbo Diesel with more Power and Torque
A central product of the ‘Sustainable Zoom-Zoom’ strategy will be introduced in Europe early next year. With its new-generation 2.2-litre common-rail turbo diesel, Mazda launches a clean, fuel-efficient and powerful engine. 185 PS of power and 400 Nm of torque make it one of segment’s liveliest diesels. To enhance overall fuel efficiency, the engine employs innovative new technologies including ultra high pressure fuel injectors and a lower compression ratio.
